Getting visitors to your site is one thing, but getting them to come back is another...
You could spend as much time as you want getting people to come to your site, but if you aren't getting them to come back you're missing the point. Offering fresh content is one of the best ways you can keep people coming back, especially when done in conjunction with mailing lists.
Think about it. If your promotion effort peaked out with about 500 new visitors a day looking at your site and none of them ever came back, in a year's time you'd still have about 500 visitors each day. However, if just 10 percent of new visitors were interested enough to come back just once a week to check on new additions to the site, by the end of the year you'd have over 350 extra repeat visitors every day!
Offering fresh content can be time consuming, but if there's nothing new to look at people have no reason to come back. If you're offering information, add more information. If you're selling a product, add more products. If you're marketing a service, try offering new articles or something of interest for people to read. Never let your site stagnate.
Letting people know that your site will be offering new content is just as important as adding it. Within your page remind people to check back often for updates. Encourage people to sign up for a mailing list to be notified of updates. On particular portions of your site that are popular, try saying things like "if you found this information useful, be sure to check back next week for more similar articles...".
Link Directories
A link directory is simply a page (or pages) with links to outside sites you feel would be of interest to your visitors. Links on this page aren't necessarily the result of exchanging reciprocal links with others, but are instead quality links you've dug up yourself.
While it may seem counterproductive to spend time linking to other people's sites, creating good link directories is a good way to get your site bookmarked by visitors. How many times have you visited a site with a number of links to external resources and bookmarked it for future reference? When a visitor comes across a number of links they would like access to later, it's much easier for them to bookmark the page listing them all than to bookmark each individual site.
The purpose here isn't to start up a mini Yahoo!, it's just to provide small link directories of sites that would be of specific interest to your visitors. Don't try to provide links to everything on the 'Net, there are already search engines for that sort of thing. Focus your efforts on what you know best.
While not all of them will go for it, should you link to any sites with comparable traffic to your own it may be worthwhile sending them an e-mail letting them know, and requesting that they link back to you. Don't threaten to remove any links, just explain to them why your site may be of interest to their visitors, as outlined in exchanging reciprocal links .
Using Mailing Lists
A mailing list is a list of people who subscribe to receive periodic mailings about a particular topic of interest. Electronic mailing lists refer to those where people receive said mailings via e-mail.
Because subscribers have already visited the site to sign up to the list, mailing lists won't do much to attract new visitors to your site. They will however, be extremely useful in making visitors to your site frequent visitors.
Content - All webmasters want lots of it and need lots of it to get a lot of traffic to their websites. In order to boost traffic, many webmasters try work on their meta tags or even resort to tricks in an effort to get more visitors to their site.
But one of the simplest, most effective, and most dependable ways to increase the amount of traffic to your website is to offer more quality content. I'm sure you have heard it said that on the Internet, content is king. Well, it's true!
For your website to be successful, you need to understand exactly how more content brings more visitors to your site as well as how to generate quality content that is related to your particular website theme.
